St. Lucia – A Dramatic Island Escape

Posted in Travel Writing by Karen Platt on 24th Feb 2025

My recent trip to Barbados with some of my colleagues was swiftly followed by a visit to Saint Lucia an island famed for its dramatic landscapes, lush rainforest-clad mountains, and stunning luxury resorts.

Our home for the stay was Zephyr Hill, a breathtaking villa perched high in Cap Estate, offering sweeping views of both the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Its striking design and tranquil setting left a lasting impression, and with just a few small enhancements, it has the potential to be a true masterpiece of luxury.

A stay at Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort, was another unforgettable highlight. Nestled between the majestic Pitons, the resort offers unrivalled views, impeccable service, and a sense of total relaxation. And while every aspect of the stay was exceptional, one thing stood out above all—the beds. Without a doubt, they were the most comfortable I have ever experienced, with silky-smooth sheets that felt like pure indulgence after a long day of exploration.

At Windjammer Landing, the hospitality went above and beyond. From setting up beachfront loungers with rum punch at the ready to arranging champagne in our private rooftop pool after dinner, every detail was handled with care. One of the most touching moments? Receiving our personalised bathrobes as a parting gift—an unexpected gesture that brought some of us to tears.

The Flavours of St. Lucia

St. Lucia’s dining scene was just as impressive as its natural beauty.

A standout meal was dinner at Coal Pot, a charming waterfront restaurant in Castries Harbour. As the twinkling lights reflected off the water, we enjoyed a perfectly cooked tenderloin—one of the best I’ve had in a long time. Lunch at the Marina was a relaxed yet delicious midday treat, while our final evening meal at Flavours Restaurant was the perfect way to conclude our culinary journey through the Caribbean.

This trip was a beautiful reminder of what makes the Caribbean so special—unparalleled luxury, breathtaking natural beauty, the warmth of its people and dramatic landscapes, world-class resorts, and heartfelt hospitality.
