The coastal town of Ålesund is the commercial capital of the Møre og Romsdal district. But more important, it is noted for its characteristic Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) buildings, which some claim make Ålesund one of the most beautiful towns in Norway. This Art Nouveau style emerged when the town was completely rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1904 destroyed nearly 800 buildings and left 10,000 residents homeless. The modern town came into existence in the 1870s to serve the needs of the iron industry. Iron ore is mined in neighbouring Sweden and, as an ice-free port, Narvik was chosen as the ideal export location. The LKAB mining corporation is still a major employer and landowner in the area, shipping some 25,000,000 tons of iron ore from the port annually. In 1883 a co-owned British-Swedish company was given permission to build a railway connecting the Swedish iron mines in Kiruna to Narvik. It opened in 1902 and the town, then christened Victoriahavn, grew up around it. Unfortunately much of Narvik was destroyed in World War II. Invaded by the Nazis on 9 April 1940, it was later retaken by the Allies, representing the first military defeat of Hitler’s troops, but was evacuated as part of Operation Alphabet when it came under German occupation again. The midship Suite (Ambassador Deck 10) offers a central location and easy access to the spa, sun/pool deck, and Borough Market one deck above on Lido Deck 11. Positioned near the heart of the ship, this cabin is in an ideal location to reduce the effect of the ship’s movement. The Suite includes a private balcony with ocean view, sitting area, two twin beds, and the majority of cabins can be converted to a double bed arrangement.

Lupino's

Lupino’s restaurant pays homage to Michelle Lupino – our much missed colleague who sadly passed away following a short illness in October 2022. Lupino’s is a Mediterranean-style restaurant with a relaxed, al-fresco feel. Guests can expect fresh Mediterranean salads, mezze and more. Supplementary charges apply. Please book on board.

Taking inspiration and serving cuisines from all over the world, with our casual buffet style eatery, Borough Market, features a wealth of flavours from all corners of the globe, allowing guests to craft their own unique dining experience.
Buckingham

Breakfast and lunch in Buckingham are generally served on an open seating basis, giving guests flexibility on when to dine to suit them. At breakfast, you can expect a full buffet with one special served to the table and for lunch there will be starter, soup and dessert served buffet style with the main course served to the table. At dinner, we operate two sittings, which can be requested upon booking and will be, and you can expect our standard 5-course dinner served full table service that may know and love from Ambience.
