Itinerary

  • Day 1 Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada 13 Sep 2026 (Sunday)
Iqaluit is the capital of Canada’s newest territory, Nunavut, which is Inuktitut for “our land”. The community is located at the head of Frobisher Bay, an inlet of the North Atlantic extending into southeastern Baffin Island. The Bay is so long that it was first taken to be the possible entrance of a Northwest Passage. In Iqaluit, the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum and the Nunavut Legislative Assembly Building both house incredible collections of Inuit artwork with interesting local prints for sale in the museum shop.
  • Day 2 Lady Franklin Island, Nunavut, Canada 14 Sep 2026 (Monday)
Named in honour of Sir John Franklin’s widow, the lonely and uninhabited Lady Franklin Island lies off of Baffin Island’s Hall Peninsula at the entrance to Cumberland Sound. The island is named for the wife of Sir John Franklin, the Arctic explorer who died trying to discover the Northwest Passage. The geology of the island is striking with vertical cliffs of Archean rocks, likely to be some of the oldest stone in Canada. The waters around Lady Franklin Island offer an abundance seabirds, ducks, seals, and walrus. With a bit of luck it is possible to see Atlantic Puffins here and perhaps even... See more
  • Day 3 Lower Savage Islands, Nunavut, Canada 15 Sep 2026 (Tuesday)
  • Day 4 Hvalsey, Greenland 16 Sep 2026 (Wednesday)
Northeast of Qaqortoq and at the end of a fjord, Hvalsey is one of the best examples of South Greenland’s many scattered ruins from the Norse period. Today the area is used for sheep-grazing, but until the 15th century the settlement at Hvalsey, and specifically Hvalsey’s church, played an important part. Christianity had spread its influence throughout Europe and eventually had reached remote Greenland, where it established itself in the country in 1000 AD. Hvalsey Church was built in the 14th century and is the best preserved of the churches in Greenland from that period. Apart from the chur... See more
  • Day 5 Torngat Mountains National Park, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada 17 Sep 2026 (Thursday)
The Torngat Mountains National Park is situated on the eastern side of Labrador’s northernmost point and features mountains sometimes described as the “Eastern Rocky Mountains”. The park covers an area of 9,700 km2 (over 6,000 mi2) and is dotted with remnants of several cirque glaciers. Saglek Fjord has an outstanding array of geological features and the steep cliffs provide some of the best exposures to the earth’s geologic history. The name of the national park goes back to Torngarsoak, who was believed to control the life of sea animals and took the form of a huge polar bear. Polar bears hu... See more
  • Day 6 Saglek Fjord, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada 18 Sep 2026 (Friday)
  • Day 7 Hebron, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada 19 Sep 2026 (Saturday)
  • Day 8 Hopedale, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada 20 Sep 2026 (Sunday)
  • Day 9 Red Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada 21 Sep 2026 (Monday)
  • Day 10 Woody Point, Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada 22 Sep 2026 (Tuesday)
Acclaimed for its unearthly landscape, Woody Point is probably as close to Mars as you will ever get in this lifetime. Situated on the west coast of the island, the Tablelands behind Woody Point in the Gros Morne National Park are composed of peridotite — like much of the surface of Mars — and  NASA, the Canadian Space Agency, plus others are studying this unique land form searching for insights into possible bacterial life on the red planet. The story of the Tablelands earned Gros Morne its World Heritage Site status from UNESCO in 2010, and the area remains a geological wonder, showcasi... See more
  • Day 12 Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada 24 Sep 2026 (Thursday)
  • Day 13 Grand Manan, New Brunswick, Canada 25 Sep 2026 (Friday)
  • Day 14 Boston, Massachusetts, United States 26 Sep 2026 (Saturday)
There’s history and culture around every bend in Boston—skyscrapers nestle next to historic hotels while modern marketplaces line the antique cobblestone streets. But to Bostonians, living in a city that blends yesterday and today is just another day in beloved Beantown.
